COLOR MATCHING TIPS FOR LEATHER OR VINYL REPAIR

COLOR MATCHING TIPS FOR LEATHER OR VINYL REPAIR

Every leather or vinyl repair is unique. It can vary in size, severity of the damage, finishing sheen, and color. And more often than not, color matching turns out to be the most challenging step of the repair.  Find out in this article some color matching tips to consider when doing your Coconix leather or vinyl repair!

BEFRIEND YOUR COLOR CHART

First thing you have to learn for your Coconix leather repair project is using the color chart! You will most probably have a difficult time mixing and matching if you do not understand how your color chart works. While reading this, it’s best to have your color chart ready with you!

On the Color Mixing Guide portion of your repair kit manual, you will see colors with labels on the left side and colors with labels on the bottom part. Look for the best color match of your leather and vinyl across the colors on the grids. Once you have found the perfect color match, follow the grid on a horizontal line to the left to know your main color. Then, follow the grid in a vertical line to the bottom to look up your secondary color. You will see the meaning of the color labels at the bottom portion where the color legends are indicated. Your Color Mixing Guide also has easy instructions if ever you get confused along the way. On the lower right corner of your Color Mixing Guide is where you will find how to contact us in case you need further help with color matching.

PRACTICE AND RESEARCH WITH PATIENCE

If you want your repair project to be a masterpiece and looking #AsGoodAsNew, then you will need time and patience for your research and practice. You don’t need to entirely rely on your Color Mixing Guide since it is just a “guide” and it doesn’t limit you to research further on color matching. You may look at your repair kit’s reviews and you’ll be surprised how many tips you can get from our happy customers! You can also check out some of our website blog posts and customer review highlights related to leather or vinyl color matching. You also have to try your color mixture first on an inconspicuous area so that you know if it dries darker, which usually happens especially with lighter colors. Practicing will also help you be more familiar with the colors in your kit and how they go about when mixed. But don’t be too excited and squeeze all of the colors out of the tube. Just add a fair amount of your secondary color/s to your main color and add according to how you would like to adjust the shade A little amount goes a long way!

USE THE TWO KEY COLORS

When mixing, you will have to use the two key colors in color matching: Black and White. These two repair compound colors will help you adjust the tint of your color mixture. It is also important to remember that you only have to add tiny amounts of black or white at a time. Again, a little amount goes a long way!
