DO YOU MAKE THESE COMMON LEATHER CARE MISTAKES?

DO YOU MAKE THESE COMMON LEATHER CARE MISTAKES?

Sometimes we tend to do the wrong things that we think are good for our leather stuff. There are also instances that we are informed that a habit is good when in fact it actually destroys our leather materials. Find out what these mistakes are and make sure to avoid them next time!

USING HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS

Household cleaners can be good for other things, but not for your leather! Household cleaners usually cause cracking, drying or sometimes staining of your leather. Good quality leather can last for many years and using household cleaners to clean might just shorten its lifespan.

USING SADDLE SOAP

Soaps have a balanced PH level while leather is acidic. So using saddle soap, despite its name, is not very helpful in keeping your leather in good condition.

EXPOSING IT TO TOO MUCH WATER

Too much of anything is bad, and that applies to water and leather! Let’s admit it: water is a universal cleaner that helps in many things. Plus, it has low cost, great supply, and proven results! However, too much of it will actually destroy your leather material. When water goes into the leather pores, penetrates deep into the leather fibers and lubricates it, that’s when you know you messed up. Once that water evaporates, the oils float to the surface with the water and weaken the leather’s quality and integrity. A damp cloth is recommended when wiping off spills and stains. But soaking wet cloth or immersing the leather in water is a BIG NO!

NOT TESTING PRODUCTS ON AN INCONSPICUOUS SPOT

To be a wise DIYer, you must always test a product or a method first. When cleaning your leather goods, try the cleaning product first on a small spot and check if it is a good match with your leather. Just like what we recommend to Coconix users, try the repair compound first on an inconspicuous area before applying it to the damaged area. This will help you find out how the product works on your leather and the results you might get.

THROWING AWAY YOUR LEATHER STUFF WITHOUT REPAIR

Many people tend to easily give up on their leather goods once they see damage or if it’s not as good-looking as it was when they first bought it. This is a big mistake and you are wasting precious leather material that could be saved and restored. Repairing it without spending too much by hiring a professional can make so much difference. You might be scared to make mistakes or encounter DIY repair challenges along the way. But what you don’t know is that a lot of people have tried, and was very happy and grateful that they did! If your leather goods have damages like scratches, cracks, small punctures, tear, rip, holes, burn marks, peeling, flaking, or even discoloration, then you MUST try Coconix Professional Leather and Vinyl Repair Kit! You might be surprised how effective and professional the results it will give you and how easy you can save, restore, and make your worn-out leather stuff look #AsGoodAsNew!

  • Purchased professional leather and vinyl repair kit from amazon in 2017 when “bonded” leather couch just had few cracks. Moved, lost the kit and have now redound it. Back of the head cushion had lots of flaking. Scrubbed it off to a 6×6 inch square. It is pale yellow. Put a dab of yellow and all of the tiny white thing and still too dark yellow. Will need an entire bottle of white to try this repair. Is that possible?
